In Swahili, 'ndoto' means 'dream'. For us, a dream is not a flight from reality, but a deeper engagement with it.
A Legacy of Landmark Performance
Ndoto is led by Lucian Msamati — actor, director, and producer. From making history as the first Black actor to play Iago at the Royal Shakespeare Company to acclaimed lead roles at the National Theatre and in global cinema, Lucian's career is defined by a refusal to be limited by the magnitude of a dream.
In 1994, he co-founded Over the Edge in Zimbabwe, proving that a professional touring theatre company could be built from the ground up through sheer artistic rigour. This same spirit is the foundational engine of Ndoto.
